La Peña continues its partnership with Sanchez Elementary to present "Alebrejes". This exhibit at Las Manitas Avenue Café showcases artwork by 4th grade students from Sanchez Elementary. It runs from April 7th until May 5th . A closing reception will be taking place on Cinco de Mayo, Friday, May 5 th starting at 4:30 pm and will feature a performance by the Sanchez Elementary Honors Music Choir.

Pedro Linares the patriarch of papier mache in Mexico. Fantastic imaginary animals came to Pedro in a dream one night. The 4th grade students at Sanchez Elementary concocted their own painted versions the Linares-inspired whimsical creatures by combining several animals in one and adding pattern and color.   This project was done under the supervision of Jean Leider, art teacher at Sanchez Elementary, and student teacher Melanie Sherwood.
