Just in time for Mexican Independence Day, La Peña is proud to present “Nuestras Raíces / Our Roots”, a beautiful exhibit of stained glass windows created by two artists from the heart of Mexico, Jorge Castro and Eduardo Rosas.
Jorge Castro was born in Mexico City. At the age of 15, he moved to the United States, went to high school in Harlingen, Texas and then moved to Belton, Texas to attend the University of Mary Hardin Baylor where he majored in business with a minor in arts. He has worked for different companies in the past, but always wanted to work for himself and make art.
Eduardo Rosas was born in Mexico City. He majored in accounting at the Universidad del Valle de Mexico. He studies regional dance and is also a member of many dance groups that have toured many different countries. Wanting to share his culture and love for the arts, Eduardo came to the States to join Jorge in this work.
A statement from the artists:
“ We were born in Mexico City, a place of traditions, history,
and original talent to create manual arts of all types. For these glass
works we have
simply taken our city living and our traditional Indian pride and created
windows as a vision to a new world full of ideas and colors, shaping all
sorts of images we wish to share with the people of this country.
We joyfully hope that with the colors fill your homes and the flowers of
our Mexican Indians give life to that being we all carry in us. We hope
you enjoy this art as much as we enjoyed creating it.”
