Mi Raza de Bronce
mosaic windows by Jorge Castro & Eduardo Rosas
December 2-23, 2006
Reception: Saturday, December 2, 2006 6-8 pm
La Peña presents “Mi Raza de Bronce” from December 2nd through 23rd. This exhibit features the mosaic windows of Jorge Castro and Eduardo Rosas. It opens on Saturday, December 2nd with a reception from 6-8 pm during the annual Capitol tree lighting ceremony and holiday stroll on Congress Avenue. The opening will also feature a musical performance by San Antonio’s all-female mariachi group Las Alteñas.
Jorge Castro and Eduardo Rosas are two artists from Mexico City who now live in Austin. Over the last few years, these two have taken old windows and given them new life with their colorful mosaics. The imagery the two create involves traditional symbols such as the Virgen de Guadalupe, pueblas in Mexico, and migrants going about their daily duties. The windows have sold out nearly everywhere they’ve been shown and the two artists have been commissioned to do various private and commercial jobs. La Peña is glad to once again present the work of Castro and Rosas at its gallery.
