Louis
Castro Perez together with other death row inmates Randy Arroyo, Edward LaGrone,
Anibal Canales, Ramiro Ibarra, and Tony Ford invite you to share in their
celebration and love of art and life.
Jennifer Lairamore, a popular sculpture artist from Boulder, Colorado shares
her very creative look at capital punishment through a humorous ‘electric
chair’ that has traveled across the nation with Amnesty International.
Tammy Gomez visits from Fort Worth, Texas with her world renown art of voice and poetry, performing her ‘platica’ about the criminal justice system, with an incredibly moving first-hand view of having your loved one incarcerated.
Musicians Kitty Scott and the Mariachi ‘Trio de San Antonio’ perform traditional, wonderful classic Latin American songs. We want everyone to share in the joy of the evening with love, Song, Music, and Dance. It’s Valentine’s Day Weekend!
A short video, which was produced by University of Texas students with Delia Perez Meyer, sister of Louis C. Perez, will be shown. In addition, Louis has prepared a ‘book’ of notes from his friends on death row over the past 6 years, many of which have already been executed. It is a beautiful and incredibly poignant look at the reality of Texas’ death row and the humanitarian spirit that lives in each one of them.
The artworks
from these inmates show how they have learned the wonderful craft of art
and they have so graciously allowed us to share in that passion
for art. A special thanks goes out to Louis C. Perez’ family, friends,
and pen pals across the world for their continued love and support. Thanks
go out to Campaign to End the Death Penalty, San Jose Catholic Church, and
the countless people who work towards abolishing the death penalty in Texas.
