La Peña presents “Antes Siempre”, an exhibition of paintings by Ana Fuentes and Cecilia Colome at La Peña Gallery. It opens on Friday, May 12th with a reception from 6-8 pm and runs until June 2nd. Ana Fuentes was born in 1959 in Chicago. She studied Literature and Art at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, studied design at The Institute of Science and Technology in Torreon, Mexico, and attended art workshops with several Master painters in Mexico City. Among the shows she’s been involved in, several were organized by the National Council of the Arts in Mexico City, Monterrey, Puebla, Durango and Torreon. She represented Mexico at the International Art Fair, Europalia in Belgium in 1995, and has been invited by the Art Museum of Shanghai to show at the International Women Art exhibition in 2007. Ana Fuentes’ works are in private collections and museums in Mexico, Belgium, Spain and the United States. Cecilia Colomé was born and grew up in Mérida, the capital of the Yucatán Peninsula of México. At age 11, she started taking drawing and painting lessons with the painter Amalia Baquedano. In 1980, Cecilia moved to México City to attend The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she got her Bachelor of Science in physics and math. From 1980 until 1988, Cecilia was a student and later a member of group of engravers “Los Tres Patios” under the leadership of Juan José Beltrán. In 1988, Cecilia moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, where she got her Ph.D. in astronomy in 1995. Currently, Cecilia works as an editor of math textbooks, is a freelance science writer, translator, engraver, and painter.
