La Peña presents “New Paintings by Jorge Puron” at La Peña Gallery. The exhibit by the Piedras Negras, Mexico-born painter opens on Friday June 9th with a reception starting at 6 pm. The exhibit runs through June 30th, 2006. Jorge Puron is a self-trained artist born in 1969 in Piedras Negras, Mexico, which is along the border of Southwest Texas. He has been influenced by a bicultural life. Residing and travelling in both the U.S. and Mexico has allowed him to work on numerous artistic projects and collaborate with artists of different disciplines, as well as exhibit his work in prominent galleries and museums in both countries. In 2002 he initiated and coordinated the project “Art Garden,” which proudly continues today. Its main purpose is the promotion of local and foreign artists that call San Miguel de Allende home. Jorge Puron was invaluable in the start-up of Anarte Gallery in San Antonio, Texas in 2000. He has created numerous commissions for patrons in the U.S. and Mexico. When it comes to the process of creating his art, Puron says, “Art is a subconscious regurgitation achieved through the experience of the human condition. This process culminates with the manifestation of a physical reality.” He adds, “My work is subconsciously driven by internal feelings and temperaments mixed with outer world experiences. Remaining loyal to my instincts and the complexity of my self discovery, along with the general exploration of my affective world, feed my creativity. Since my emotional states dictate, the near brutal execution and handling of material in the paintings process will change constantly, thus conveying an emotional intensity infused through color and form. The result is the unpredictable yet frank expression of my true spirit.” |
