Leading the Charge Opening Night Celebration

In association with the Americans for the Arts Annual Convention "Leading the Charge", La Peña presents a night of art, music, and celebration. From June 11-13 th , hundreds of arts professionals from all over the country will be coming to downtown Austin and the Hilton Hotel to take part in "Leading the Charge". As a part of the opening night celebration on Saturday, June 11 th , La Peña joins Mexic-Arte Museum , ArtHouse , and the Austin Museum of Art in welcoming them. The night begins with the Art Car Parade at 6 pm, followed with a night of art and music along Congress Avenue.
La Peña invites you join them as they present Mariachi Las Alteñas . Hailing from San Antonio, they have been regarded as one of the best all-female mariachi groups in not only Texas but the nation. La Peña has also extended its exhibits of "Frida y Yo / Frida and Me" and "Pinto y Pinto / I Paint and Paint" throughout the month of June. At Las Manitas Avenue Café, "Frida y Yo" is an art exhibit of self-portraits by the 4th grade students at Sanchez Elementary inspired by the work of Frida Kahlo. At La Peña Gallery, "Pinto y Pinto" features the acrylic and mixed media work of Chicana artist Carmen Rodriguez Sonnes.
