La Peña presents “The Puppet Show” at Las Manitas Avenue Café. It features paper mâché puppets and painted portraits of Mexican artists done by fourth grade students at Sanchez Elementary. They will be on exhibit beginning April 18th and be up through May 18th with a closing reception from 4:30 – 6:00 pm.
For more than a decade La Peña has presented artwork from students at Sanchez Elementary. This year, under the supervision of art teacher Jennifer Gonzalez, the children have created puppets and portraits of famous Mexican artists. They include Diego Rivera, Luis Barragan, Frida Kahlo, and Rufino Tamayo. Groups of students worked together to create puppets from paper mâché and individually painted portraits of each of the artists.
