La Peña presents “Las Mujeres” by Sabrina Zarco at La Peña Gallery. This exhibit of images in fiber are in honor of the tradition, struggles, and lives of Latinas. The show opens on Friday, July 7th with a reception from 6-8 pm and runs until August 4th.

Sabrina Zarco’s art quilts are a unique combination of hand and machine stichery, fabric manipulation, quilting, painting, and embellishment. Her distinctive embellishment style utilizes cast off items, and found objects in addition to beads, buttons, and jewelry. These items are layered to create dimensional textures along with brightly colored images often found in traditional folk art.

By combing art and activism, a great deal of Sabrina’s work facilitates ongoing community dialogue regarding subjects she is passionate about: women, children, violence, environmental and social justice causes, and the preservation and promotion of traditional folk arts.

Sabrina’s work has received numerous awards and honors including the Arkansas Art Center’s 47th Annual Delta Art Show Grand Award. She has exhibited in museums, galleries, art institutes, and traveling collections nationally and abroad in solo and group shows. Her work can be found in many private and public collections all over the world.
