La Peña presents “Voces de Fuego”, an exhibition celebrating International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, March 8th through April 6th at Las Manitas Avenue Café. The opening reception will be taking place Friday, March 23rd from 6-8 pm.

International Women’s Day was recognized by the United Nations in 1975 and in 1987 the U.S. declared March Women’s History Month. Every March La Peña exhibits the artwork of women artists in honor of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. This year La Peña has invited many artists who have exhibited with them over the years. They include Rita Maria Contreras, Cecilia Sanchez Duarte, Marie Garza, Nivia Gonzalez, Ambray Gonzales, Carla Nickerson, Deborah Roberts, and Liliana Wilson. These women have used their art work to represent, share, and preserve a rich cultural heritage as well as use it as a platform to speak out on important issues facing women and minorities.
