Los Fotógrafos

La Peña is happy to announce Mes de Los Fotógrafos for September to October! Stop by and see the wonderful artwork of Austin's photographers going all-out! This exhibition has a wide variety of subject matter, composing, and thematic imagery being shown.

Mes de Los Fotógrafos is a means for La Peña to give Texas photographers a chance to show us the world through their eyes. The capturing of light, a single moment in time, a memory, a feeling, is an incredible thing. Open to the public now until October 10th 2021

“These photos are a small portion of a larger body of work I am creating over the women in my family. My grandmother, pictured here, has been diagnosed with leukemia - a side effect of the chemotherapy she endured for breast cancer more than 10 years ago. A woman of unwavering strength and delicate beauty, she has never let her life’s misfortunes destroy her.”

“This was taken with my friend in Santa Monica this past summer, one of my few outings in the past year and a half. In that time, I had been desperate to do portraiture, and I was lucky enough to be able to do some with my friend who is one my favorite people to work with on modeling and photography.”

"I started studying photography before the digital camera back in the day when you could print black and white images in a darkroom and color if you were lucky to have access to a machine large enough to fill half a room. The images in the show come from a pre pandemic time in Austin when artists and musicians could still afford to live in the city. Late night venues and all day festival atmospheres contained a joy and a darkness together that I found intriguing and worked to capture."
