“Of Imaginary Cities” is a voyage through the art and imagination of Fernando Muñoz, experimenting with different mediums such as acrylics, watercolors, printmaking, and drawings. Of Imaginary Cities takes you on an exploration of his most recurrent themes like solitude, melancholy, and the search for belonging.
“Of Imaginary Cities” is inspired by a poem by the Chilean poet, Nicanor Parra, “El hombre imaginario / The Imaginary Man” and it will mark my last exhibition in Austin for the near future as I will be embarking on a journey to a different country, perhaps visiting other imaginary cities on the way” - FM.

Fernando Muñoz is a self-taught artist from Chile living in Austin, Texas since 2004. His work uses intricate patterns, lines, and bold colors. His work plays with surreal motifs and dream-like scenarios.

El hombre imaginario por Nicanor Parra
El hombre imaginario
vive en una mansión imaginaria
rodeada de árboles imaginarios
a la orilla de un río imaginario
De los muros que son imaginarios
penden antiguos cuadros imaginarios
irreparables grietas imaginarias
que representan hechos imaginarios
ocurridos en mundos imaginarios
en lugares y tiempos imaginarios [...]
The Imaginary Man by Nicanor Parra
The imaginary man
lives in an imaginary mansion
surrounded by imaginary trees
on the banks of an imaginary river
On the imaginary walls
imaginary old paintings hang
imaginary irreparable cracks
that represent imaginary events
occurring in imaginary worlds
in imaginary times and places [...]
