West Austin Studio Tour (WEST)

La Peña participated in the second annual West Austin Studio Tour (WEST) sponsored by Big Medium. The event began on April 27 and ran through May 5th. WEST is a free, self-guided tour of artists' studios and exhibition spaces located west of I-35 in Austin. La Peña had  special exhibits as well as an amazing musical performance guests "Sister Sister". Come check us out next year!

Donna DeCesare is widely known for hergroundbreaking photographic reportage on the spread of Los Angeles gangs in Central America. Her photographs and testimonies from children in Guatemala and Colombia who are former child soldiers, survivors of sexual abuse, or who live with the stigma of HIV helped UNICEF to develop protocols for photographing children at risk.  News and arts publications have featured her award-winning photographs including: The New York Times Magazine, Life, Mother Jones, DoubleTake and Aperture.

Toma Mi Corazón XXII

For twenty two years, La Peña has invited everyone to “Take My Heart.”  Dozens of wooden hearts are given out and decorated by artists, dignitaries, children, and anyone else who would like to participate.

Once decorated, these hearts are sold in a silent auction. The proceeds from this event go to support La Peña's visual arts programs and their work with children in elementary schools.

The festivities began at 2 pm with a preview party, followed by the silent auction at 6 pm.
This year, there was also be a fashion showing of the latest spring collection by Austin designer, Csilla Somogyi.
